My Secret Indulgence – Chocolate & Pretzels

One of the things I will never say ‘no’ to is a dark chocolate covered pretzel.

There’s just something about the luxurious sweetness of the dark chocolate when it’s combined with the crunchy salty bite of pretzels… for me it’s the ultimate combination.

I love to make this super easy chocolate bark when I have a bag of pretzels laying around the house – or when I have a hankering for something salty and chocolaty. It’s considerably less messy than making chocolate covered pretzels and it comes together in minutes. Minutes! Yes, you can be all fancy and melt the chocolate in a double boiler on the stove but let’s be real, that’s just more dishes to wash. I use the microwave.

The best part is you can use however many pretzels you want so it’s perfect for that leftover bag. Occasionally I’ll also add in some coconut for an added texture but you could also add in dried fruit or anything else you like covered in chocolate.

Let me know what combinations you try — and how long your first batch lasted before it was gobbled all up!

Salted Dark Chocolate Pretzel Bark:

6 oz of really good dark chocolate

pretzels – broken into large pieces

coconut flakes/dried fruit (optional)

Maldon salt

Place the chocolate in a large microwave-safe bowl and melt in the microwave for about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, stopping every 20 seconds to stir the chocolate.

Stir the broken pretzel pieces and any coconut or fruit into the chocolate and combine well. I like to use a silicone spatula for this step because the chocolate doesn’t stick to it as much as a wooden spoon or spatula.

Pour the mixture out onto a parchment lined cookie sheet and spread out until even. Sprinkle the Maldon salt on top of the smoothed out bark. Let the bark stand for about half an hour then put into the freezer for an hour to completely harden. Break apart into pieces. Keep any leftover bark in the fridge to prevent the chocolate from melting.
