Do you know how to make a true Chicago style hot dog?
What does this have to do with Petoskey Brewing??
It’s perhaps the only place in Michigan to get a truly authentic Chicago dog. Who would have ever guessed that it would be in Petoskey? This right away earned them some major points in my book!
I first had a sip of Petoskey Brewing Company beer at a restaurant in Traverse City. The name was Horny Monk and I liked it so much that I made it a point to go visit the brewery this summer.
We made the trek to the brewery one late morning the day before the 4th of July to pick up some beer and have a quick lunch. Now the biggest holiday in summer isn’t exactly the time to go to Petoskey, unless you like to sit in traffic, but let me tell you it was worth every second of travel time.
Their beer is fantastic! Don’t forget this is coming from a wine drinker here. It was perhaps the most flavorful beer I’ve ever tried, even from the first sip. The first thing my husband did was order their Hopsessed Double IPA – I had it on good authority that it was amazing – and even I liked it (still way too hoppy for me to really enjoy though). An unexpected treat was the special seasonal Brettanosaurus Saison. It’s available in the brewery only and I would recommend a trip just to try it.
We brought home a ton of beer – and now with the end of summer upon us, we only have one lonely can left in the fridge. I sometimes can’t believe how fantastic the beer is from these craft brewers, it’s like I’ve never really tasted beer before. It’s enjoyable, smooth and luscious – and what I had here at Petoskey Brewing is top notch.
**Oh, and the proper way to make a Chicago dog? Well, it starts with a poppy seed bun…
…poppy seed bun, Vienna dog, mustard, chopped onions, a pickle spear, tomato slice, sport peppers, celery salt, and don’t forget the bright green relish.
