The second stop on my wine tour of Old Mission Peninsula was Chateau Chantal – the place I’ve heard about over the past several summers – the place whose Inn looks like an Italian villa – the place where I’ve seen pictures of the amazing Mario Batali giving cooking demonstrations – the place I’ve been dying to visit.
At Chateau Chantal I was so distracted by the panoramic views adorning their grand deck that I forgot to buy a bottle before I left. Wrapping around the tasting room is this enormous deck where you can purchase a glass or two of wine and a few nibbles then enjoy them in the sunshine while overlooking their acres upon acres of vineyards. There were even these fantastic paper parasols waiting to shield your shoulders from the sun. For sure it was one of my top patio experiences – beautiful views, wonderful crisp wine, creamy cheese, good conversation and perfect weather. I probably could have spent all day in that spot were it not for the need of lunch.
My regret here is that I spent so much time in awe of the view that I sort of ignored the wine itself. I guess that means I’ll just have to go back for more.
