Life

saving daylight

As we bid an official farewell to Summer this evening I am reminded that the shorter days will soon be upon us and I will be cooking my dinners looking out at the dark evening sky.

Perhaps one of the things I love most about Michigan is that it’s on the eastern edge of the time zone.  This means that no matter what time of year it is, we get to enjoy even the littlest drop of fading sun during our evenings.  I love the summers when it stays light until 10:00 in the evening.  Even now, on the brink of fall, I can still enjoy the light and look outside as I clean up after dinner.  I was visiting the Atlantic coast last week and by the time we were done with dinner each night it was already dark out.

So when it’s dark and cold and snowy, I’ll try and remember Michigan’s perk and enjoy the extra bit of daylight in the evenings.  That and think fondly of those long Summer nights.
