Food Michigan Tasting Michigan

on savoring wine

I am a lover of wine.  Italian wines to be specific.  In the winter a heavy, thick red and in the summer a light, crispy COLD white.  My favorites, and the ones I am yearning to try, almost always come from Italy.  However, this isn’t about sitting down with you and discussing the scent or flavors in these wines I like – not that I’d be stellar at these discussions if it were.  I want to share what I hope to discover.

Michigan may be most well known for it’s great lakes but this home of mine is a land with 163 wineries.  I want to discover, and learn to love, these Michigan wines.

I know little about the wine here.  I do know that because of the cold weather the vines in Michigan produce grapes that give a wine very different from the California wines most of us are used to or those Italian ones that I’m so devoted to.

The wineries are become increasingly popular and drawing in tourists by the droves.  From west Michigan up to the Traverse City area, it seems like I am always hearing about this winery or that winery and I want – no, need – to try these wines.

It is with a commitment to you, my dear readers, that I will make the sacrifice to travel the mitten and visit a few vineyards this summer.  Discovering little gems that may be hidden away in the north behind the larger wineries.  Discovering the uniqueness of these colder weather grapes. Discovering the people who make the wine.  And finding a favorite Michigan wine to adore.
