I don’t know about you but I sure do have my favorite cupcake.  My favorite cupcake is from Sweet Mandy B’s in Chicago where I first had their cupcakes back in 2003.  The chocolate is my favorite and they were kind enough to donate the delicious recipe to the Junior League of Chicago’s wonderful cookbook (click to buy!).  Oh, I’ve tried many of Chicago’s cupcakes but these will always have a special place in my heart.

With all of the buzz and articles this week about the closing of Crumbs Cupcake shops it would appear that cupcakes are on their way out.  Chicago is being inundated with doughnuts and – according to Food Network – people in New York no longer want cupcakes for their wedding cakes! Gasp!

I will admit that while I am DYING to line up and try an Old-Fashioned from The Doughnut Vault the next time I’m in Chicago, I am still quite a fan of the cupcake.  And thank goodness because Lansing is still doing the cupcake over the doughnut.  I love the cupcakes at Whipped bakery in Old Town Lansing.  They have simple flavors along with ones that are a bit more adventurous (like the maple bacon!).  Perhaps my favorite part about their cupcakes is that they are small – unlike the gigantic ones that were once so trendy – so I can try more than one!

So, please, join me in slowing down the doughnut movement – go buy (or bake) a cupcake today!!
