Life Michigan

making of a Michigan girl

With all of this reflection and the realization that I’m perfectly at home in two places, I’m still not quite sure when it happened.

When the city girl in me started to melt away.

This past summer was one where I truly felt at home in Michigan. I wore makeup probably once and I left the windows open at night to let the cool breezes filter through the house.

If I had to name a time I first felt like a Michigander it was this time in mid-July. The family from Chicago came to visit up north at the lake {as they do every summer and we did when we lived in Chicago}. This year I was intent on taking my cousin-in-law to check out the new Bonobo Winery in Traverse City. Last year I visited several wineries on Old Mission Peninsula {check them out under the “tasting Michigan” tab!} and I was so excited to share the beauty and delight of these perfect “Pure Michigan” spots.

We went and it was lovely. The wine at Bonobo was just divine. We stopped at a couple of my other favorite wineries. But there was a part of me that was completely bummed. It was cloudy and rainy and foggy. You see, these wineries on Old Mission have the MOST amazing views. Views that you really have to see to believe. I had wanted to share this beauty so badly. For those still in Chicago to see this alluring nature that had melted away the city and captured a bit of my heart.
