Food Life

let’s make food “ATMs” a thing

I heard about it last night and had to learn more. There is now in existence a meat vending machine. Click here to see for yourself!!

Paris has a butcher shop, “L’ami Txulette,” that now has a vending style machine outside it’s shop so they can sell meat 24-7. My first thought was how much I wanted a cupcake right then from the Sprinkles ATM in Chicago – these really need to come to smaller towns, we want cupcakes at all hours of the day too! Come on, an ATM dispensing big, deliciously frosted cupcakes at 2:00 a.m. – that’s a gold mine in a college town.

My second thought was just how amazing this would be for busy moms everywhere. How often do you need to grab a package of meat on the way home so you can cook dinner? How often do you need to do this after dance/gymnastics/soccer practice with hungry kids in the car? How often is the small butcher shop closed forcing you to drag said tired, hungry kids through the big giant grocery store? How often do you go through the drive-thru instead because is so much less of a hassle than dragging said hungry kids through said store? Always.

Just think – pull up to an ATM, press a couple buttons, put in your money and out pops a pound of ground beef or even a steak (you know, for that nice dinner after you put the kiddos to bed). What normally takes at least 20 minutes with kids in tow would take less than 2. We need this stateside. Now. We need more of these. Let’s make life easier for all those busy families. Let’s make it just as easy to put a healthy meal on the table as its is to drive through McDonald’s.

France not only has these machines for meat but for so many wonderful cheeses and breads too. Like baker Jean-Louis Hecht said “This is the bakery of tomorrow. It is answering a real need. To me it’s a public utility.” I couldn’t agree more.

Can we get one for milk too??!!

And maybe one for wine?
