city girl goes to L.A.

I went to L.A. for the first time in April and from the first moment I stepped off the plane at LAX {without a cardigan mind you – but it took me forever to understand that reference anyway} I could see why people love L.A.  It’s something all it’s own.  It’s not a big city like I’m used to.
It’s fascinating to see the mountains rising up in the horizon beyond the tall buildings.  Or being up in those mountains (well they call them hills I guess but to me – mountains) and looking back out on the city and surrounding areas was something surreal being the midwest girl that I am.

I’ve had tea at the Pen, lunch at RL, a cocktail on the Roof of the Wit {I’m sure there are much cooler things to do now but, hey, I haven’t lived in Chicago in three years!} but having champagne at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel was something I will remember for years to come.  It was just decadent.  From the seating to the drink menu to the table flowers….to the perfect 70 degree blue sky day. I wish I could remember the name of the champagne I had so I could pretend to relive it all every once in a while.

What made the biggest impression on me about L.A?  Well it might seem a little silly but it’s just how clean it was.  It was clean everywhere.  The streets were even clean – you could probably sit down in the middle of Rodeo Drive and eat off it (well…you know what I mean).  I don’t know how they do it but kudos to you, L.A. – I can’t wait to come back!
