For the past three summers each one has been ‘the year.’ The year we are going to start camping. In a tent; camp fire, bugs, dirt and all. We now have all the major supplies – well everything except for the tent but, you know, details. And to be quite honest with you, I’m starting to get just a bit anxious about the whole thing.
I haven’t been camping since I was peddling cookies door to door in grade school. I hated every minute of it – the camping, not the cookies. I remember rain, cold, horrid food, collapsing tents and have pretty much made it a point not to camp since those days.
The thing is, I don’t really mind the idea of camping. I like nature (except mosquitoes – I cannot stand mosquitoes). I like hiking in the woods. I adore s’mores. And come on, cooking over an open fire with a cast iron skillet?? That’s the stuff cooking blogs are MADE of.
I do plan to bring an air mattress, I’ll probably bring along some fresh basil leaves because I plan to rock the campfire cooking, and I’m sure I’ll be in search of a signal so I can Instagram the whole darn thing. But I’m going to give this a fair try. A city girl goes camping? We’ll see how this turns out!
